Well, the holidays are over, so it's now safe to share photos of some of the handmade treasures I gifted to friends and family, this year. Since the gifts have all been opened, there's no risk of spoilers at this point. Happy New Year!
For my youngest niece, I picked up a teddy bear from IKEA. Then I picked up three children's books featuring stories about bears. And based on the illustrations, I created clothes to match each of the main characters in these books: Book of Bears by Michael Bond (and others), Good Night, Little Bear by Patsy Scarry and Richard Scarry, and Corduroy by Don Freeman. Any outfit I make to fit her new teddy bear will also fit her 18-inch American Girl / Pleasant Company doll, incidentally! So that's a nice bonus.
For my older sister, a new scarf in her favorite color. I crocheted a scarf similar to this for my niece a few christmases back, and at that time my sister expressed a desire to have one of her own. So here it is!
For my younger sister, a beaded ring using the peyote stitch — a cabochon technique I perfected just a few months ago. The coin in the center of this one is foreign currency, perhaps Greek. During her visit, she was collaborating with my father and his friends to record some new music. Hence the microphone! A song featuring her voice could help open up new opportunities for her acting career in Los Angeles. Wanna see more?
My nephew has a Build-A-Bear (BAB) type teddy bear. Which he treasures, whether dressed as Boba Fett or Darth Vader. So for him, and in honor of the new movie release, I created this flannel, Star Wars printed, pajama onesie! Of course, there aren't any Build-A-Bear licensed sewing patterns on the market... I had to draft my own pattern for this project from scratch. But it fits perfectly, and my nephew was thrilled!
(My sister is holding the bear for this picture, in lieu of my nephew...)
